Original oil painting on cradled gesso board
Painted area: 40 × 40cm
Framed: 43 × 43cm
Aeolus is a minor Greek god and keeper of the four winds.
The four winds are traditionally depicted as either winged men, or winged horses, as shown here, adorning Aeolus’ ‘halo’. In the tradition of stories changing over time (according to the whim of the storyteller), I have chosen to depict Aeolus as a horse too.
This piece draws from Greek myth and symbolism, together with influences from Renaissance and medieval art.
Framed in a soft sage green tray frame (see last photo).
