The Messenger

£950.00

Original oil painting on deep canvas, 45.5cm x 60.5cm

According to Norwegian myths and folklore, cormorants are connected to otherworldly realms and can deliver messages from deceased loved ones. I developed this painting around this idea, with the realm-straddling cormorant listening to whispered messages from spirits in order to deliver them to their waiting kin on the hill behind.

Both the tree forming the coromorant’s ‘crown’ and the cormorant were captured in Oxford.
