I spotted this beautiful, robust lamb on the North York Moors. I’m also fascinated by the enduring symbolism of the halo - I even wrote a blog about it!
The tradition of painting on gold leaf has a long history, often reserved for sacred paintings. Sometimes called ‘gold ground’ painting, it reached its peak around 1300, initially in Italy and the Byzantine Empire. I feel it’s a fitting way to paint the glorious creatures we find in Britain.
